In a world where environmental concerns are becoming increasingly urgent, Casa Timiș Wellness & Spa Resort stands out not only as a place of refuge and relaxation but also as a model of sustainability. Through a series of ecological initiatives and a long-term vision, we have transformed this green oasis into a top sustainable resort. Recently, our efforts were recognized with the official sustainability certification from Green Key International, solidifying our position as a leader in the sustainable hospitality industry.
Land Transformation: From Lush Vegetation to Ecological Paradise
Since our inception in 2018, Casa Timiș has embraced a profound approach to sustainability, transforming an initially neglected plot covered in lush vegetation into a rich and diverse ecological landscape. With an impressive orchard spanning 11 hectares, hosting fruit trees such as peaches, nectarines, cherries, sour cherries, plums, apricots, pears, apples, walnuts, and almonds, we have extended our greening efforts across the entire estate.
We planted not only fruit trees but also a variety of other tree species and plants. The estate now houses 1,800 birches, hundreds of tuya columnaris, oaks, firs, spruces, limes, and willows. This diversity not only enriches biodiversity but also contributes to creating a healthy ecosystem, aiding in CO2 absorption and improving soil and air quality.
Green Technologies: Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
A central aspect of our commitment to sustainability is the use of green technologies. We have installed 288 photovoltaic panels, ensuring the energy needs of the resort. These solar panels are essential for reducing our dependence on traditional energy sources and minimizing environmental impact.
Additionally, we use exclusively LED bulbs both indoors and outdoors to ensure maximum energy efficiency. These LED bulbs consume significantly less energy than traditional bulbs and have a considerably longer lifespan, thus helping reduce our carbon footprint.
We have also implemented a series of light and dusk sensors that contribute to optimizing electrical consumption. These sensors automatically adjust the lighting based on ambient light levels, saving energy and ensuring a comfortable environment for our guests.
Sustainable Agriculture: Cultivating the Dealu Mare Terroir
At Casa Timiș, we have made agriculture a central pillar of our sustainability efforts. We own over 85 hectares of vineyards, including 15 hectares of over 50-year-old ancestral vines and 12 hectares of over 10-year-old vines. The remaining land has been replanted and modernized since 2018, reflecting an innovative and ecological approach to viticulture.
Our viticulture is a form of sustainable agriculture due to the well-developed root system of the vines, which reduces the need for artificial irrigation. This practice brings significant ecological and economic benefits.
We cultivate a variety of grapevine varieties, including Chardonnay, Fetească Albă, Sauvignon Blanc for white wine, and Shiraz, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon for red wine. Additionally, we have 9 hectares dedicated to table grapes, with varieties such as Moldova, Arcadia, Prezentabil, Tereza, Muscat de Hamburg, and Jupiter.
We use vine leaves for traditional culinary preparations and shoots for decoration, contributing to creating an authentic and natural atmosphere. Our wine is utilized in a range of innovative products, including sauces, cakes, and ice cream, exemplifying a complete cycle of valorizing viticultural resources.
Aquatic Ecosystems: Artificial Lakes and Biodiversity
Another essential aspect of our sustainable approach is the creation and maintenance of artificial aquatic ecosystems. We have created three artificial lakes on the estate, which play a crucial role in managing water resources and contribute to creating a habitat for various fish species and aquatic plants.
Each lake is populated with Koi carp, adding vitality to the ecosystem and contributing to maintaining the natural balance. The water surfaces are adorned with water lilies, which not only enrich the landscape but also provide an essential habitat for various aquatic species.
Around these lakes, we have planted a variety of plants and trees to enhance biodiversity and create a healthy environment. These ecosystems not only improve air and soil quality but also offer a relaxing and recreational space for our guests, adding a unique aesthetic and recreational value to the resort.
International Recognition: The Green Key Certification
Our ongoing and dedicated efforts towards sustainability have been recognized internationally with the Green Key certification. This prestigious program, supported by the World Tourism Organization and UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), recognizes tourism establishments that promote the best environmental practices.
The Green Key certification brings numerous benefits, including savings on water, energy, and waste management, a visibly improved environment for guests and staff. Tourists choosing Green Key-certified accommodations benefit from the assurance of an eco-friendly stay and encourage the adoption of green practices in the industry.
