Prahova Jewels III
Zamfira Monastery, Slănic Prahova Salt Mine, Nicolae Iorga Memorial House – Vălenii de Munte
After a generous breakfast and a coffee enjoyed in peaceful surroundings at Casa Timiș Resort, we invite you to set off on a new and captivating itinerary. Begin your journey towards the commune of Lipănești, home to Zamfira Monastery. The route is short and takes approximately half an hour.
Inside the church, you can admire an artistic masterpiece of exceptional value—the only fresco created by Romania’s greatest painter, Nicolae Grigorescu. Recently restored, the painting reveals a breathtaking beauty that leaves a lasting impression. Here, you can also visit the Museum of Religious Art, which houses several remarkable sacred objects.
You may continue your journey towards the renowned resort town of Slănic Prahova. The main attraction here is the Slănic Prahova Salt Mine, which you enter by minibus, through a salt tunnel—like a journey to the center of the earth. The salt mine is truly grand, featuring 14 trapezoidal chambers with heights reaching up to 70 meters. It is a place worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
Take a deep breath—the air here is among the чистest and healthiest in Romania. The high concentration of aerosols and the complete absence of allergens and pathogenic germs make it highly recommended for treating various respiratory conditions. For children, there is also a small amusement area, as well as the possibility to ride scooters and go-karts.
The final stage of your journey takes you to the small town of Vălenii de Munte, where you can visit the Nicolae Iorga Memorial House, dedicated to the remarkable Romanian personality Nicolae Iorga. The 34th Prime Minister of Romania, as well as a parliamentarian, university professor, and academician, Nicolae Iorga was also a renowned historian, literary critic, documentarian, playwright, poet, encyclopedist, and memoirist. In 1908, he purchased a traditional house built in 1833 by Colonel Panca, later renovating it to suit his family’s needs. Within its walls, you will discover a significant part of the universe of this remarkable figure.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Casa Timiș. The return journey takes about an hour—enough time to reflect on the experiences you’ve lived—after which we invite you to enjoy a late lunch, accompanied by a noble ruby wine from the House.
