Zamfira Monastery, Slănic Prahova Salt Mine, Iorga Mansion – Vălenii de Munte
100 km, approx. 5 hours
After a hearty breakfast and a quiet coffee at the Casa Timiș Resort, we suggest you take a new and exciting itinerary. Head on the road to Lipănești commune, where Zamfira Monastery is located. The route is short and takes about half an hour. Inside the church, you can admire an artistic masterpiece of exceptional value, the only fresco work by Nicolae Grigorescu, the greatest Romanian painter. Recently restored, the painting is breathtakingly beautiful. You can also visit here the Museum of Religious Art, which displays some remarkable objects of worship.
You can continue your tour with a visit to the famous Slănic Prahova resort. The top objective here is the salt mine, where you enter by minibus through a salt tunnel, as if you were journeying towards the earth’s center. The salt mine is grandiose and contains 14 trapezoidal halls, whose height reaches 70 meters. It’s a place worth visiting at least once in your lifetime. Fill your lungs with air – it is the cleanest and healthiest in Romania. The high concentration of aerosols and the total lack of allergens and pathogens recommend it in the treatment of many respiratory diseases. For children, there is a small amusement park as well as the possibility to ride a tricycle or a go-kart.
The last stage of the road takes you to the small town of Vălenii de Munte, where Nicolae Iorga, a remarkable Romanian personality, has his memorial house. The 34th Prime Minister of Romania, parliamentarian, university professor and academician, Nicolae Iorga was also a renowned historian, literary critic, documentary filmmaker, playwright, poet, encyclopedic and memoirist. In 1908 he bought a traditional house, built in 1833 by the colonel Panca, and renovated it according to the needs of his family. You will discover, encapsulated between its walls, a significant part of this titan’s universe.
The return trip takes about an hour, enough time for the experiences of the day to settle. We are waiting for you at Casa Timiș for a late lunch, wet by a noble ruby House wine.
